Thanks to more than 175 local companies who donated labor and materials for the construction of the building and countless donors who provided generous financial support to get the project going, the nightly meal service at The Lord’s Diner takes place in a debt-free facility.
The Lord’s Diner serves dinner nightly from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including holidays. A small paid staff, assisted by more than 5,500 volunteers representing many faiths and denominations prepare and serve a hot, nutritious meal in a spirit of compassion, respect and loving service. The Lord’s Diner is currently serving an average of 400 meals nightly.
ebTalk has been involved in helping out with the Lord's Diner since late 2007. Once a month we try to gather 10 or more people to help do whatever is needed of us whether it be serve food and drinks, clean up, or just greet the guests. It has been something that we have enjoyed helping out with greatly. We are always welcoming new faces to come join us and volunteering. If you have any questions regarding helping out, just shoot me an e-mail or read on.
We help out usually the third friday of each month. So feel free to put it on your calendar and let us know if you can ever make it. We'd really appreciate it. It's such a great time and its always good to give back to the community.
What You Need To Volunteer
You will need a Food Handler's Card or some type of formal food safety class certificate to help out at the diner. The Food Handler's Card is free to obtain. You can get it at the City of Wichita Department of Environmental Services.
Food Handler Classes are held on the first and third Saturday of each month at 8:30 AM and again at 12:30 PM, and on the first and third Monday of each month at 8:30 AM and 2:00 PM. In the event that a holiday falls on a regularly scheduled class day, the class will be moved to that day in the following week. This will NOT change the other regularly scheduled class. Students will receive a Food Handler Card at the conclusion of the class.
